陈阿姨您好,我是兰兰。今天有想讲的故事吗?要是没有,Lily 问了一个问题:您刚到纽约的第一个冬天是怎么过的?
Hello Mrs. Chen, I’m Lana. Do you have a story in mind today? If not, Lily asked a question: what was your very first winter in New York like?
第一个冬天啊,太冷了。我们住在皇后区的地下室,暖气时有时无……哦,关于房东那段别给别人听。
That first winter was bitterly cold. We lived in a basement in Queens, and the heat came and went… Oh, don’t let anyone hear the part about the landlord.
好的,那一段已经帮您设为私密,不会写进故事里。后来过年的时候,你们在那个地下室是怎么过的呢?
Of course — I’ve marked that part private, so it won’t be shared. When New Year’s came around in that basement, how did the two of you celebrate?
The patient interviewer you wished you could be
Language gaps and busy lives get in the way. Lana is there every day — unhurried, fluent in their language, and genuinely curious.

A warm first meeting
Introduces herself, names who invited her, and gets to know them gently without assuming their age.
Remembers threads & questions
Offers questions from children and grandchildren by name, and picks up unfinished stories next time.
Solo or around the dinner table
When other voices join in, Lana mostly listens like a guest and Heardloom splits who said what afterwards.
Stories from old photos
Hold up a printed photo or open a family album — Lana looks at it with them and asks about that day.
A forever capsule of family history
A living heirloom for the generations who come after
Every talk weaves into a permanent, searchable archive — organized by person, place, time and tradition.
How it worksNot just kept, shared
Bring the whole family closer
Heardloom isn’t only an archive. It’s a way for grandparents, parents and grandchildren, near and far, to stay part of each other’s lives.
Photos grandparents love
Add the family photos: the new baby, the school play, the trip. Grandparents see them, and Lana can ask about an old photo with them: who is this, what was that day like?
Questions that cross the distance
A grandchild sends a question, Lana asks it by name, and the answer comes back as a story the family can hear in their grandparent’s own voice.
Everyone adds their own
Cousins, aunts and grandchildren share their own memories and facts, and everyone is told when a new story arrives.

Why I built Heardloom
Growing up first-generation Chinese American, my Chinese was only good enough for casual family talk, never deep enough to ask about our history. When my grandma passed away unexpectedly a few years ago, that hit me hard. She basically raised me while my parents worked. She shared a bedroom with me when I was little and brought me cut fruit every day even when her knees ached walking up the stairs. She survived losing her mom young, working as an engineer, and the Cultural Revolution before moving to America to raise us, and yet I’ll never really know the details of her story.
Now that I have kids of my own, the gap feels even wider. When my son was born, we spent weeks picking out his Chinese name, only for my grandpa to tell me we were breaking 700 years of family naming tradition that I didn’t even know existed.
I built Heardloom so the rest of our family’s stories wouldn’t disappear. Our AI interviewer, Lana, talks with our parents and grandparents in their own language, asks the questions we send her, and turns their recordings into bilingual stories that we and our kids can keep forever.
Private to your family
Only invited family can join. Saying “don’t let anyone hear this part” locks that range in code immediately. No ads, no tracking, and we never sell data.

Questions
Answers to common questions about Heardloom.
Will my parent feel spied on?
Nothing is recorded unless they start a conversation. They decide who hears each story, can make any part private by saying so, and can hide or delete stories any time.
What languages does it speak?
Lana talks with storytellers in their own language. Today that’s Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Tagalog, Spanish, and Vietnamese, with more coming soon. Stories are written in the original and in English, and the app reads in English or Chinese.
Does my parent need to type or use the app much?
No. They open the app and talk. Someone else in the family does the setup.
Who can hear the stories?
Only family members you invite. The storyteller chooses, story by story: the whole family, selected people, or only themselves.
Is it accurate?
Stories are written only from what was said, and every paragraph is checked against what was said. You can always tap through to hear the original.
What happens to our stories if we stop paying?
Stories already written stay yours, and the family keeps reading them. New recordings wait until the family has the plan again.
Is there an Android app?
Not yet. Heardloom is on iPhone today, and Android is coming soon.
Can children and grandchildren send questions for Lana to ask?
Yes. Anyone in the family circle can suggest questions from their phone. Lana introduces them warmly during the conversation and names who asked.
Can the whole family talk together, or only one-on-one?
Both. An elder can talk one-on-one with Lana, or you can place the phone on the table during family dinners. When multiple family members join in, Lana listens like a guest and Heardloom separates who spoke.
What if my parent has a strong accent or pauses often?
Lana is designed for elders. She never rushes silences, listens patiently, and understands everyday speech and regional accents without needing formal phrasing.
How does the free first conversation work?
Every storyteller can complete their first full conversation for free without a credit card. Heardloom transcribes the talk, syncs the audio, and creates bilingual stories for the whole family.
